River House

Set along the Taylor River near Almont, Colorado, this landscape connects the home’s indoor living spaces with its dramatic mountain setting. Designed as a summer family retreat, it balances recreation with opportunities to experience the surrounding landscape. A central lawn framed by natural stone paths accommodates volleyball, badminton, and other games, while defining the transition from manicured grounds to native vegetation and connecting to nearby trails and the river. A secluded fire pit invites gathering at the wooded edge. Mountain-adapted plantings, native grasses, and carefully placed boulders soften the architecture and create a seamless transition to the natural landscape.
