On Lake Washington, a glass house rises like a crystal emerging from the earth, flanked by glittering boulders that seem brought to the surface by its arrival. From the inside, expansive glass walls frame views of the surrounding landscape, while their reflective exterior captures the sky, offering privacy to the occupants and a quiet respite from nearby urban life. Around the home, carefully curated outdoor spaces and expertly designed hardscape and planting integrate with the architecture while respecting the existing coniferous forest and shoreline ecosystems. Material selections, path hierarchy, and carefully placed boulders intuitively direct guests toward primary entry points while naturally screening private pathways. Designed over several years in close collaboration with the homeowner, architect, and builder, SCJ Studio navigated complex lakeshore and riparian permitting to bring the client's vision to life.
